The Ecumenical Commission provides support and input to the Bishop, Synod Council, and members of the synod on issues and matters involving Christians from other traditions. It also serves as a forum for synod representatives on various interchurch and interfaith committees - including our representatives on Church Council of Greater Seattle and the Washington Association of Churches.

Among the activities involving commission members:

  • Lutheran - Anglican - Roman Catholic (LARC) Dialogue Team - This group has recently been expanded to include Presbyterians and United Methodists. Work is underway to sponsor a symposium in 2008 on Reading and Interpreting Scripture in Our Day
  • Task Force on Lutheran-Jewish Cooperation is looking into sponsoring a joint project for peace in the Holy Land
  • Continue partnership with Episcopal Church for TV-Eucharist televised ministry
  • Encourage ongoing support for Institute of Ecumenical Theological Studies, Seattle University
  • Ongoing participation in Church Council of Greater Seattle
  • Ongoing participation in Washington Association of Churches
  • Provide ongoing communication on ecumenical events and opportunities, such as Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The Commission meets four times each year. Meeting dates are determined at the beginning of each calendar year.
