Our Companion Synod in Ethiopia, the North Central Ethiopia Synod

The Northwest Washington Synod companioned with the North Central Ethiopia Synod (NCES) of the Ethiopia Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY).

Haik Orphanage (PDF file format108k) is located in our companion synod in Ethiopia.

History

The Synod Companionship relationship began about 1990 in the Northwest Washington Synod; God has produced many good things from this relationship to our Ethiopia Brothers, and sisters in Christ! We currently have 20 churches companioned with Ethiopian churches.

The goals of this program are based on forming relationships, praying for one another and visiting one another. We've helped to build churches. We are looking for new ways to express this relationship and build communication, church to church, encouraging our faith.

The Church in Ethiopia is growing very fast. We have much to learn from Gods work in our Ethiopia brothers and sisters on spreading the Gospel, the good news to our world. Now is the time to listen with our hearts, and minds. Please join us in our companionship efforts to Ethiopia.

Join in the Blessing.

How You Can Get Involved

Become a companion church to an Ethiopia congregation; email eithiopia@lutheransw.org.

Congregations and individuals are encouraged to find creative ways to interact with the Christians in Ethiopia, so our love for Christ will deepen and the good news will spread in both places.

Recent Prayer Concerns and Letters

Pastor Dereje Jemberu (V.P. on the Mekane Yesus church) writes:

We are preparing to celebrate EECMY's 50th Jubilee for two days, before our General Assembly. It is since the church was constituted at a national level. We will be highly engaged in preparing things for this big occasion. More people are expected to come from our partners, mainly from USA and Europe and Africa. As chairperson of the preparation committee the coming months will make me work hard.

Greetings to all, With love, Dereje. Please pray for the success of this great celebration of their 50th year celebration!

A Letter from a companion church

Dear Fred,
Many greetings from our Synod to you all. We would like to extend our deep gratitude and appreciations towards your concern to build mutual relationship between the companion Churches. Based on your e-mail, we have contacted the Dessie Congregation so as to meet and build the Congregation's good communication and relationship with Edison Lutheran Church and Faith Lutheran Church in the Northwest Washington Synod.

The leaders of the Congregation have discussed the various issues and prepared a document that better describes all the activities in brief.

The pastor's name is Rev. Mulugeta Melaku. He is 42 years old. He is also serving our synod as vice-president besides his pastoral ship service in the Congregation. His wife name is Taitu Alene. He has four children two daughters and two sons. They are Hana, Fasika, Samuel and Joseph. They are 12,10,6 and 2 years old respectively.

We have also enclosed you some pictures that illustrate the Congregation activity, the ministers, the people and the children. We also assure you that the Synod will remain serving as a bridge for mutual communications for our Ethiopian companion Churches. Hoping that you will pass on this information to the companion churches there.

Wishing you all the best, Berihun Mekonnen (Rev.) Synod President

Prayers

Please pray for our Brothers, and Sisters, and their families in our Companion Synod in Ethiopia; many face many hardships in daily life for their faith; many do not have much to live on, and for many health issues are a burden. Yet their faith is strong! Trusting in God and his promises.

Please pray for the Dessie Congregation, and their companion churches in our synod: Edison Lutheran Church in Bow and Faith Lutheran Church in Bellingha.

Please pray for a brother, and his wife, and Family who has lost his business due to a fire of unknown cause; for security reasons we cannot disclose his name; God knows!

Our Companion churches in Ethiopia are praying for us; their children are praying for us; let us now join them in prayer before God that his will be done among us in our mutual work in His Kingdom in the Companion church program. Blessings.
