Gloria Dei Endowment FundThe Gloria Dei Fund is currently unable to fulfill grant requests due to the current economic situation. When the principal balance of the fund has been restored to its original level, the Committee will advise the Synod and invite grant applications. In 1990 Gloria Dei Lutheran in Newport Hills closed its doors and sold its property, giving the proceeds as an Endowment to the Northwest Washington Synod. Over the years, the Gloria Dei Fund has provided many grants to assist professional leaders with sabbatical, continuing education and leadership development opportunities and seed money for new or expanding ministries. The Governing By Laws of the Gloria Dei Endowment Fund stipulate that a minimum of 60% of grant funds be used for sabbatical, continuing education and leadership development for rostered leaders. Other allowable purposes are evangelism and parish outreach, parish education, support for mission congregations and in support of the social ministries of the NW Washington Synod. Committee members are Bev Piro, Phinney Ridge, Chair; Karen Dicken, Holy Spirit, Kirkland; and Marlin Appelwick, Faith, Seattle. Grant applications should submitted to the Fund's chair, Pastor Beverly Piro at Phinney Ridge Lutheran, 7500 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103. For more information contact Pastor Piro at 206-783-2350 or bpiro@prlc.org. |
