The Reverend Shelley M. Bryan Wee has served as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America since 1993. She is currently serving as Bishop in the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA. She delights in working with congregations, ministry sites, Rostered Ministers, and others in this day and time.
Born in Springfield, Oregon, Bishop Wee’s family settled in Colville, Washington after living in a few other states. She is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, WA) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications Arts (emphasis in Public Relations) and a minor in Business Administration (emphasis in Marketing). She obtained a Master of Divinity degree from Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary (now Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN). Bishop Wee was ordained into Word and Sacrament Ministry in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on August 28, 1993.
Bishop Wee served Jocko Valley Lutheran Church (Arlee, MT); Zion Lutheran Church (Spokane, WA); Emmanuel Lutheran Church (Cheney, WA), and Eastern Washington University Campus Ministry (Cheney, WA). She served as Assistant to the Bishop in the Northwest Washington Synod prior to her election to Bishop in 2019.
She is the parent of two grown children, Katie and Daniel. Her interests include live theatre productions, walking her dog Jackson, reading, gathering with family and friends, dancing, working out, traveling, and she is always ready to hear (and sometimes tell) a good story.
Bishop Wee is excited to know what God is up to and how all can join in the Holy Spirit’s work in the church and throughout the world. She is excited to embrace the word “synod” – walking together – in the hope, love, justice, forgiveness, and all-embracing grace of Jesus.
