All Rostered Minister, SALMs and Interns are exptected to attend!
We look forward to time together at Seabeck Conference Center on Hood Canal - with colleagues from around the synod and guest presenters: Dr. Andy Root and Rev. Kara Root. Read more about them here.
Our theme is: "So That All May Flourish: Navigating Christian Identity in Today's World"
What are the issues regarding the rise of cultural secularism which ministers in the Church today need to be aware of? How do we both understand and negotiate the impacts of this fundamental shift from a religious worldview to a secular one? How does this cultural shift affect our Christian identity and practice? Our presenters have spent significant time reflecting on these questions and are eager to engage us in fruitful conversation to support a flourishing future for the Church.
BONUS Opportunity prior to convocation
In anticipation of Bishop’s Convocation, we are offering a five-session guided pre-convo conversation introducing Charles Taylor’s A Secular Age. The convo presenters are well-grounded in this primary source as evident by Andy Root’s six-volume series from Baker Academic, Ministry in a Secular Age. This is an opportunity and invitation for us to prepare for our Spring convocation.
NO PREPARATION IS NEEDED! Simply hop onto Zoom and join the conversation!
Each session will focus on the concepts from each of the five sections of the book and their implications for practicing ministry today. The conversation will consider the touch points to some of the current challenges rostered leaders face today, and with a view to explore practical approaches for engaging with congregants and communities influenced by secularism. This series is part of the convocation registration fee. We will meet online 12:00 noon-1:15 pm four times prior to convo, and one time following convo on these Thursdays: Jan 30, Feb 20, Mar 20, April 10, and May 8.
